Stephen Sondheim's semi-autobiographical musical Merrily We Roll Along has an incredible score with some of his most beautiful melodies. As the title suggests, Merrily moves along with wit, a great sense of humor, and an powerful story by George Furth. It is a cautionary tale about holding onto our friendships, dreams, and creativity. With all of the elements of a backstage musical (love, loss, showbiz gossip, and upbeat music)l, Merrily We Roll Along begins in the present and moves backwards, tracing the lives of wealthy, jaded composer, Franklin Shepard, and his two estranged friends through each milestone of their personal and professional lives (good and bad) eventually leading us to an inspiring conclusion where the three best friends are at the start of their careers facing a bright future: young, talented and enthusiastic about the worlds waiting to be conquered.
