Leland High School

High School Philosophy

A High School Experience with Big Opportunities and Personal Connections

At Leland High School, we believe that education should empower every student to chart their own future while grounded in a caring, connected community. Our philosophy balances individual academic pathways, real-world experience, and deep personal mentorship to help students graduate as confident, capable, and purpose-driven adults.

  • Personalized Paths & Known Students: Our small school setting ensures that no student is just a number. Staff know each student personally, serving as mentors who help craft individual paths forward. Rooted in generations of Leland tradition, we foster a culture of belonging where students feel safe to take academic risks, ask big questions, and lead.

  • Big-World Academic & Career Opportunities: We offer the robust options of a larger institution while maintaining individualized support. With access to over 10 in-person Advanced Placement (AP) courses, hands-on career training at the Northwest Education Services Career Tech Center (CTC), and college-credit pathways, students tailor their high school experience to align with their unique post-secondary goals.

  • Student Leadership & Community Impact: Leland high schoolers do not just participate in their school; they shape it. From founding new clubs and leading community service projects to competing in Comet athletics, performing in drama, and serving in Student Council or Honor Societies, our students build resilience, strong peer networks, and real-world leadership habits.

Come see how our dedicated team helps high school students build meaningful connections, discover their passions, and step confidently into life after graduation!

The Leland Experience

Learning Beyond the Classroom:

At Leland, education doesn’t stop at the classroom door… it extends into the vibrant world around us! We believe that true understanding happens when students connect their classroom learning to authentic, real-life experiences.

As students move through high school, learning expands through student-designed field trips, off-campus class sessions embedded in our local community, and deep subject-specific research. Global perspectives come alive through the World Learning Club, offering unforgettable international travel opportunities to destinations like Guatemala, Finland, Germany, and Japan.

It all culminates in a cherished Leland tradition: the Senior Trip to Chicago. Graduating seniors spend time exploring a major urban center, celebrating their achievements, and making final lifelong memories together before stepping confidently into the future.
