The Primary Years Programme

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) inspires students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 to become curious, compassionate, and lifelong learners. Through engaging Units of Inquiry, students explore meaningful concepts across all subject areas while developing the knowledge, skills, and attributes needed to understand the world and make a positive difference.

Guided by six transdisciplinary themes, students ask questions, investigate authentic problems, collaborate with others, reflect on their learning, and take meaningful action. Each Unit of Inquiry is guided by a Central Idea and Lines of Inquiry that encourage deep thinking and meaningful connections across disciplines.

How We Learn

Learning Through Inquiry

Through inquiry-based learning, our students ask questions, investigate ideas, make connections, reflect on their learning, and take meaningful action. They develop both academic understanding and the confidence to become thoughtful, responsible, and engaged members of their communities

Approaches to Learning

The PYP helps students develop lifelong learning skills that they use in school and beyond.

Thinking Skills – Solving problems, making connections, and thinking critically and creatively.

Research Skills – Asking questions, investigating, observing, and evaluating information.

Communication Skills – Expressing ideas, listening actively, collaborating, and presenting learning.

IB Transdisciplinary Themes
