Dear LPS families,

It’s time to introduce the Comet Weekly for 26-27! This weekly newsletter is designed to be a one-stop resource for families at Leland. We always include a direct message from me, a list of upcoming dates, and announcements and celebrations from our K-12 staff and students. The Comet Weekly comes every Friday at 3:30 pm, and is designed to be available for your family whenever you get the chance to look it over. Please do take the time to check it out each week so you’re in the loop! You can email cometweekly@lelandschool.com with questions or material for the newsletter.

Sometimes the Comet Weekly has some homework for our parents/guardians. This week, your homework is to apply to volunteer at LPS. We ask parents/guardians to complete a volunteer form every year just in case an opportunity arises to attend a school activity with your child. Please consider getting this application done early so we have you on our list of approved volunteers! Visit lelandschool.com/volunteer to see our policies and complete the form.

Many times throughout the year, the Comet Weekly includes reminders about our pick-up/drop-off system, Car Line. It has been a pretty smooth start, with just a few reminders needed! In Car Line, we need everyone to pull as far forward as possible before unloading/loading, we need drivers to stay in the car, and we need everyone to wait in line without passing. Those 3 rules keep our Car Line safe and efficient! Please share those rules with grandparents, babysitters, and anyone else who might pick up or drop off in Car Line. Thank you!

Applications are being accepted for students interested in studying abroad for the 2027-28 school year with Rotary Youth Exchange. Studying abroad is an excellent way to learn a new language, discover another culture, and truly become a global citizen. Each year Rotary sponsors students, aged 15-18, from our local area to live, study, and build peace around the world! An information session is planned for Sophomores and Juniors, Friday, September 11th during Advisory.

For the first time ever, Elementary students don't need to bring any money from home for the Farmer's Market. Thank you to our PTO for a summer fundraiser to fund $5 vouchers for our K-5 kids for the market!

Each Friday, Sept 11, 18, 25, and Oct. 2 the 2-time State Champion Leland Soccer Program will be offering 1 hour soccer training sessions from 5:00 to 6:00 PM for any child ages 4-12. Players will receive instruction on all aspects of the game from Leland Varsity players and coaches. The cost is a one time fee of $65 for the season, which includes a Leland Soccer Academy T-shirt. Payments can be paid in person at Hancock Field and is due prior to participating. Scholarships are available upon request (rsirrine@lelandschool.com). Registration is open to all youth regardless of school district. Registration should be completed by the following instructions below. Thank you!

Leland 2025-2026 Yearbooks will be available for sale starting Tuesday, September 8th. Students or parents interested in purchasing a yearbook for $30 can do so by either stopping by the yearbook classroom or the main office. You may also reserve a yearbook in advance by emailing Mr. Knudsen at rknudsen@lelandschool.com.

Join us October 4th for the Leland Comets Golf Scramble, the biggest LCLF fundraiser of the year.  Register a team to play or support a sponsor here. Proceeds aid all Leland Comets athletic teams.  

Please join us for the PTO Open House! If you've been wondering what the PTO is all about or what happens at the monthly meetings, this is the event for you. All LPS families are welcome, and we'd love to see you there.
