The Principal's Update

Dear LPS families,

We have started to hear some questions about Summer 2026; I want to share that we won’t be running a summer program this year at LPS. 

I know this is disappointing. The reality is that Michigan’s childcare licensing rules are complicated, even for schools, and require dedicated space and staffing that we simply don’t have available. Grants that we have used in the past are no longer available, so we won’t be able to run that program for the foreseeable future.

We will always keep looking for creative solutions, but for now, this isn’t something we’re able to offer. Thank you for your understanding!
In other news, remember that we want to hear from you about our transition to ParentSquare! Visit tinyurl.com/QEsurvey2601 to give us some feedback. We will have a ParentSquare helper in the lobby at conferences, so feel free to stop by if you’d like help adjusting your message settings in ParentSquare!

Close Up Trip Close Up students will be traveling to Washington D.C. for the Close Up week long high school program in just a couple of weeks. Forms are DUE this coming Wednesday March 25th. We are truly looking forward to this week of learning outside the classroom.

The Comet Spirit Passport has been a hit, and the student section has been full of Comets cheering on our basketball teams. There is one more week of home basketball games, so keep earning those stamps. Students should come by the High School Library to collect their prizes for 5, 8, and 16 stamps. Go Comets!

PTO Trivia Night Appetizers Needed! It's almost time for the first PTO Trivia Night. It promises to be a fun evening of competition and connecting, and we’re putting together a great spread! We need your help: if your team is willing to bring an appetizer or charcuterie board items to shareplease sign up!

Free Breakfast Please remind your students to join us for their free daily breakfast! Elementary students should attend breakfast at the very beginning of the day before they head to their classroom. Middle and High School Students should make it a priority to come down to the cafeteria for Breakfast Break daily! If students are not hungry at their designated breakfast time, we encourage them to still get a portable breakfast and save it for a snack later in the day! Thank you for your support for our cafeteria!

Original Broadway Costumes for LPS Theater's Disney Little Mermaid Thanks to The TDF Costume Collection in New York and a very generous donor, Leland Theater Department had Christmas in February this week when part of our costume rentals for Disney's Little Mermaid came in!!!!!!

These costumes from the ORIGINAL BROADWAY PRODUCTION OF THE SHOW!!!!!!!! We are beyond excited and stunned to get to use these amazing costumes in our show!!! 

We started rehearsals this week and cannot wait to show everyone what we are cooking up for you Under the Sea!!!!!
