State Funded Breakfast and Lunch Update:

Due to the current absence of a finalized state school aid budget, we want to make you aware of a potential change to student food services for the upcoming school year. Over the past few years, Michigan's state budget has included funding for free breakfast and lunch for all K–12 students. As a result, we've seen a significant decrease in the number of families submitting applications for the federally funded Free and Reduced-Price Meals Program. However, if state funding for universal free meals is not continued in this year’s budget, families will once again be responsible for the cost of student meals unless they qualify through the federal program.

To ensure your child is potentially covered in the event that state funding is not approved, we strongly encourage all families who have not yet done so to complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meals application as soon as possible.

While we remain hopeful that the final state budget will include funding for school meals, submitting an application now is a proactive step to ensure your student continues to have access to meals without interruption.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 1, 2025 Leland Public School Announces Ryan T. Huppert as Next Superintendent Leland, MI – The Leland Public School Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Ryan T. Huppert, M.Ed., as the district’s next Superintendent, effective July 1, 2025. Huppert brings two decades of experience in public education, including 15 years in school leadership. He recently completed his Doctorate of Education Leadership at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and served as a Resident to the Superintendent in Revere Public Schools, Massachusetts. A native of West Michigan, Huppert is an award-winning former principal known for leading City High Middle School in Grand Rapids to a National Blue Ribbon Award and consecutive #1 rankings in Michigan by U.S. News & World Report. Known for his collaborative leadership style and dedication to educating the whole child, Huppert emphasizes wellbeing, belonging, and deeper learning. He is a bilingual leader, experienced in instructional innovation, professional development, and strategic planning. “We are thrilled to welcome Ryan Huppert to Leland,” said Kate Vilter-Stassen, Leland Public School Board President. “His passion for student-centered education and proven record of success, make him an ideal fit to lead our school into the future. Superintendent search parent focus group, tomorrow, Friday, February 21, 8:30 am in the board room. If you'd like to provide input to the search consultant, please plan to attend.

As a result of the snow days last week, many factors including the rescheduling of other events have led to the decision to push Spirit Week and the Snow Co Dance one week back. Spirit Week will start Monday, February 3rd. The Sno-Co Dance will be on Saturday, February 8th.

Leland Public School is closed today, Thursday January 23, due to poor driving conditions.

Due to worsening conditions throughout the day, LPS will be closed today, Wednesday, January 22.

Tomorrow morning, Wednesday, January 22 the Green bus will not be running due to driver availability.
